Main question:
After the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan, has people lost confidence in the usage of of alternative forms of energy supply? How significant is this problem and how can we solve/improve it?
1.What do you mean by sustaining energy?
2.What kinds of energy?
3.What is the importance of doing so? Who do we have to sustain energy?
4.How exactly do we make things sustainable? How much is considered enough for future generations?
5.Why is energy in particular, required to be sustained?
6.Despite the existence of sustainable forms of energy, why do countries around the world still resort to non-renewable sources of energy?
7. What exactly is the root problem of the ineffectivenss of current practices?
8.Will the process of finding new alternative sources of energy threaten the world in other areas? E.g, environmental damage, nuclear disasters.
9.What are the various target groups we can focus on?
10.What are the approaches we can carry out to specific groups of people?
6.Despite the existence of sustainable forms of energy, why do countries around the world still resort to non-renewable sources of energy?
ReplyDeleteSome of the non-renewable sources of energy include oil, coal and natural gas. The infrastructure to produce energy from these non-renewable sources is already being built, so it is more economic-efficient to continue using them instead of demolishing them. Some countries have built the infrastructure needed to use renewable energy sources (e.g. solar and wind power) but it is expensive to do so and the cost to build the necessary equipment would make the price of the power very high. Hence, it is cheaper to use non-renewable sources of energy. Also, non-renewable resources are more energy-efficient than the renewable ones.

3.What is the importance of doing so? Who do we have to sustain energy?
With the exception of renewable energy, energy is a limited resource. We ought to sustain it and save it for our future generations. In addition, we need energy for many daily tasks. Therefore, sustaining energy is important.
Sorry idk how to answer the 2nd part..... ._.
2. What kinds of energy?
ReplyDeleteThere are
-thermal energy
-electrical energy
-gravitational energy
-chemical energy
-sound energy
-nuclear energy
-light energy
-kinetic nergy
-potential energy
-light energy

ReplyDelete7. What exactly is the root problem of the ineffectivenss of current practices?
ReplyDeleteEnergy markets and market prices determine how much energy consumers would consume and whether or not they want to invest in more energy-efficient products and equipment. Higher energy prices may result in some energy conservation in the short run. However, short-run changes in energy efficiency tend to be limited as energy-using appliances and capital equipment take a very long time to depreciate totally and be replaced. Thus, the unwillingness of most consumers to start using more energy-efficient products and equipment is the root problem of the ineffectivenss of current practices.

ReplyDelete10.What are the approaches we can carry out to specific groups of people?
DeleteWe could get the government to support use of these alternative sources of energy to encourage companies and members of the public to become more willing to use these sources of energy. The effectiveness of government support can be seen from the following example. Because of government policy support for efficiency in Japan, total nationwide electricity sales in 2011 relative to 2010 decreased in July, August and September. Power generation decreased by 3.7% in January 2012 as compared to January 2011.
Currently, high up-front costs and low operating costs are deterring companies from using alternative sources of energy. We could get the government to provide tax incentives for the manufacture, installation, and use of renewable energy systems in companies to encourage them to harness such forms of energy.
8.Will the process of finding new alternative sources of energy threaten the world in other areas? E.g, environmental damage, nuclear disasters.
ReplyDeleteThe process of finding new alternative sources of energy will threaten the world in other areas as developing other sources of energy will lead to pollution, damaging the environment and affecting the quality of living of people.
For example, the use of hydro-electric power will alter the river and riverside habitat, affecting the ecosystem near the river. It will also slow down river speed, increasing the rate of sedimentation of river, leading to water pollution and flooding of nearby areas.
Other than that, the use of wind power can also lead to noise pollution as wind turbines are noisy, each one can generate the same level of noise as a family car travelling at 70 mph. This will in turn lower the quality of living of people in the area.

How exactly do we make things sustainable?
ReplyDeleteFirstly, we can do so by using renewable resources such as hydro-electrical energy, geothermal energy and wind energy. By doing so, the resources we use to create energy would be able to be reused, thus ensuring things become sustainable. Applying the same principle, we can look into obtaining resources for various objects from renewable resources, thus attaining sustainability.
Also, we can practise conservation where we only used what we need and not more of it. By not wasting precious resources, we can ensure that things remain sustainable.
Finally, there is a need for research and development to technology breakthroughs so as to increase the supply the resources or find more efficient ways of using or finding resources.

ReplyDeleteQn 1.
ReplyDeleteSustaining energy means that we need to converse energy for future uses and storage. Energy is usually from a finite source rather than renewable sources, hence there is a need to conserve and sustain the energy so it can be used for later or other purposes. Besides conserving energy, sustaining energy also means that energy has to be used efficiently to their maximum capacity so as to reduce wastage, indirectly helps to sustain energy.

ReplyDeleteIn the past decade or so the human population has boomed to unprecedented proportions and thus has engendered has a huge increase in energy consumption that is still skyrocketing till today. This can be attributed to the rise of technology which fueled humans' insatiable hunger for energy.Consequently,it has resulted in an accelerated depletion of our non renewable main energy source - fossil fuels.Hence it is vital to find sustainable sources of energy to meet our demands. This is especially so when developing countries such as China and India are increasing their proportion of global energy consumption.
ReplyDeleteOne target group is the young (below 10) we can use interactive means to engage them and encouracge them to support nuclear energy.
ReplyDeleteWe also can target the public where we encourage celebrities to encourage people to support this course
